Things We Don't Do Anymore

It struck me the other evening whilst doing a very old but new to me jigsaw just how many things we don't do anymore...

Turning off the tv manually...then waiting for the dot to disappear in the middle of the screen...this would not be late at night either!

Watching the test card...

Playing jacks...

Take a piece of ash to school on Ash Wednesday...

Say white rabbits on the first of every month...

Salute magpies...

Look up at the new moon...never through glass and turn over money in pocket...

Darn socks...

Fill churns with milk...

Hem bits of old sheeting for cloths...

Change the typewriter ribbon...

Lick stamps...

Dial numbers with your finger in the correct hole...

Answer your home phone by quoting your number including area code...

Anybody think of anything else?

The Power Of Power

A very hot...and sweaty day...

Progress made to the steps and retaining walls...

Lots and lots of sunshine...

Loads of washing done...

Too hot to iron though...

Too hot to think really...

Especially after three successive five am wake ups from Heidi....

Howling for a mate as she's in season...

Pitiful...

Poor girl...

Hopefully the vet will consider her as having lost enough weight to be spayed soon...

A roast evening meal...

Hungrily gobbled down...

A very tricky jigsaw started...

Seriously...A Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady puzzle...

50p at last weekends fete...

Mostly cream...

Sunlight fading...

Cooling mist rolling in...

Eerie...

Very eerie...

Bang...or so hubby heard outside...

We later found out that someone had taken out a low voltage power cable...

No lights then...

No ignition for the oil boiler...

Hubby went to check at the farm to see if that generator needed firing up...

It didn't, it was just 37 homes...all shrouded in very eerie mist...quiet...but then...

Hubby who had been working out in the heat all day brought home his generator to fire up in order to shower...other caveman had one too...

We then boiled the kettle, checked on elderly couple up the road...who of course had their Rayburn going!

Next was offer neighbors boiling water for bedtime drinks...

Then off with very noisy monster of a machine...

Battery candles for getting ready for bed...

A little progress made on very difficult jigsaw...

And then today it began all over again with a pitiful howl at 5am followed by a quick 'enough' in my best deep authorotive voice from me...

So now I should be getting ready for work...

I need a wake up something...

Looks like a lovely day...

Not that I'll see much of most of it...

Next time I promise a picture of the patio progress...

70 Miles

Yay...go me...I've walked over 70 miles in the last two weeks...I feel fitter already...the most I've trotted up in one day is 7.02 miles...someday soon I hope to toddle for ten! Probably not today though as I did something very silly on Sunday evening...having a poke at some dry skin on the side of my big toe I decided to pull it off, and in doing so also peeled off tender skin from under said toe...it managed to bleed all night!

I have resisted doughnut urges at work...nibbles at the pub on Saturday night, and dessert on Sunday knowing that there was birthday cake...

We've eked out the months worth of meat I purchased back, oh the end of May I believe, and are now down to very slim pickings in the freezer...so it will soon be time for another spend out at our butcher of choice...it has been surprising how little meat done right can be really tasty...I really thought I was pushing my luck with the cavemen yesterday but a few scraps of bacon...literally...sufficed!

This morning, after two very slight gains the past two mornings...I've dropped .4 of a pound...It seems like if I eat more carbs they stay in the body for longer, they hold onto more fluid as well...though it could be fat turning to muscle also...which is what I hope will happen as I don't just want to be a slim looking fatty!

Today I really need to head to Barnstaple...don't want to but almost have to!

Looking very much like wet play today so back home for a paperwork session too!

Legging Along The Lanes

Today has been my 'babies' 21st birthday, and what a day we have had to remember...
Along with all the celebrations a lovely roast meal has been eaten at The Instow Arms...and eldest daughter made a lovely chocolate, covered in chocolate icing, and surrounded by chocolate fingers, and topped with sweeties birthday cake...
So what was a mother to do but indulge! But mindful of the bulge issue she has then walked her little socks off!
So far today I've walked 16,432 steps, burning off 2,092 calories...
Darn hard work...but I shall persevere...
Now for some Zzzzzzz...

What I'd Like To Do Today

Some sewing please...we are in desperate need of good sturdy shopping bags...that survive being folded, and don't, despite being classed as reusable last very long...Asda hessian rubbish I'm throwing you OUT!

Back before Christmas I made and posted here bags for my girls...

http://wintersendramblings.blogspot.co.uk/2015/12/progress.html

I'm pleased to report they have been used almost every day and still look mighty fine to me...this despite being stuffed beyond their intended capacity...

HOWEVER

What I have to do is another long drive fairly shortly for work...

Last evening after a long day I was 'out with the girls' and realising I didn't have enough calories left before eating took myself on a long walk around the town first...as I did so I kept glancing up at the tops of buildings...cos they're interesting...trouble was I ended up with the strobing of a migraine...

Yuck...

So today I need to be very mindful of this...I shouldn't be on here really...

Maybe no sewing when I get home later...

Maybe some rest behind dark glasses...

With a glass of elderflower cordial...

Feet up...

Zzzzzz...

The First Step

Last evening the two cavemen finally produced the first step! Not allowed to walk on it yet and this means Heidi is confined to what will be the patio area to do her business...

But it is progress...

Now the first levels are in place to work from hopefully things will pick up a pace...

Not sure when we'll have access to the wash house next though...

Could be wearing rags by next week!

Anyway...I have another trip to the city today due to work...so a long drive ahead shortly...

Yesterday afternoon I did a cook up, filling the cavemen's packing tins with fruit cakes and flapjacks...I then managed to wash the dishes before licking out the bowls...absolute torture!

Next I worked out the calories in each flapjack...300 and cake 180, and decided to treat myself to half a slice of flapjack and a long walk!

Tea time came and went and I took myself off for another brisk walk...stopping to pick a few heads of honeysuckle on the way which have spent the night scenting our bedroom wonderfully...

A very simple pleasure, but oh what a pleasure!

Glad to report a steady drop in weight since the arrival of Fitbit...that and the wedding are proving to be very strong persuaders to succeed this time round...I really feel more energised too for all the walking I've been doing...

'Till next time.

Being Patient

Just how patient are you...

This was our garden a few weeks ago...

Any clues as to where all the mud is coming from?...

We're now a little further along from this...

To this actually...

Now bearing in mind that shed is our wash house and several trips are required each day and the weather we have been having...well how patient should I be...

Today is actually dry and even mildly sunny...so where are the cavemen...well one is still in the land of nod and the other one is out all day on another tractor run...

Can anyone understand the reluctance of the two females in the cottage to bake any cakes for the two males?
