Photo Hunt

A few weeks ago I signed up to Hawthorn Spellweavers scavenger photo challenge over at http://livelovecraftme.blogspot.co.uk/ so here we go...

Firstly orange...

Rust on an old oil drum that had taken up residence at the bungalow...

Next feather...

Spotted on a lovely dog walk with Heidi...

Something fresh...

Freshly painted dresser...minus it's doors...though they are now on thankfully!

Moving on to horizon...

On the horizon is the village I live in...though now not quite in the village, more the parish...

Wet...

Speaks for itself really...

Next craft...

Having had no time to make anything other than meals...I now consider cooking a roast to be a craft with just the woodburner!

Growing...

Grand puppy Beatrice is growing fast!

Memories...

The sight and smell of a real Christmas tree always brings back lots of memories to me...

So sticks...

New sticks put in to support the old ones!

Finally any subject...

How about curtains...because we don't have any yet!

And that's it folks...my take on the challenge...

Thank you to Hawthorn Spellweaver for setting it...

Oh My!

I have decided that I must have hoarding tendencies...of the food variety...

I could probably feed a hundred people for a week or so...albeit not very well, on various supplies I have accumulated.

Partly I'm laying the blame at Approved Food...I did a massive order ages ago for tins of rice pudding, custard, pineapple, golden syrup, along with some packets of cup a soups...turns out I don't use many tins of apricots but I shall...oh I shall!

I'm also an occasional shopper at Booker, where cheapness comes with bulk buying.

Oh dear!

Given little storage space at Little Winter, and not wanting to have a long journey to the in laws every time I want to replenish stocks of something, I have hidden a stash in the attic! No one else knows so keep it under your hat!!

There are still many boxes to bring back from the in laws, but not today...today I need a break, and a Pilates class, and to write a rather chunky essay for new job...oh and bills need paying...such is the exciting life here at Little Winter...

Yep...this much exciting...

Now does anyone have any recipes to use tinned apricots so that they don't taste like apricots any more...and can be cooked on top th woodburner? I appear to have a...cough splutter...few dozen tins to use!!

How

How can we have accumulated so much stuff...

How ever did it fit in the bungalow...

How am I ever going to sort through it all...

How many more days of house moving slog...

How are we going to manage until the end of May cooking on the woodburner...

How many more times will I hit my head on our sloping bedroom ceiling before I remember to duck...

How long before all the building dust disappears...

How long before spring really arrives and stays...

How are you...

Sunday Afternoon At Little Winter

After a very hectic week I find myself alone apart from Heidi at Little Winter.

Would anyone like a little look around?

Come on in then...but remember, nothing is finished!

Firstly the kitchen sink...very aptly I seem to have spent much time around this area...

Next the Bramley dresser I painted...minus it's doors...well I did warn you nothing was finished...

We move onto the table...very interesting!

Sunday lunch cooking atop the woodburner...

We had chicken thighs on onions in one pot and roast potatoes in the other with veg and gravy added later...yum...

Anyway here's the one finished window sill...

Fridge and pantry cupboard AKA our old wardrobe...

Novel office storage...

Finally for today a peek at our room...still with dirty bedding on which needs washing, mending and using on spare bed...

Having no wish to photograph the mountains of 'stuff' that needs sorting that's all for today...I hope you enjoyed your little visit...maybe you'll get to see some more next time...

Till then

We're In!

So we've slept at Little Winter for the last two nights...and sleep I have! The lack of curtains has surprisingly not bothered me at all. There is still much to do back at the bungalow, and plenty more needs attention here. Skirting boards should be delivered today....yes after the carpet is already fitted. We have no cooker as yet, last night we had a disposable barbecue, being hubby's birthday, and the first night we ate a very welcome chinese.

Heidi is settling in to new smells and noises, she's keeping pretty close to 'Mum' though! If you sleep at the bottom of the stairs apparently no one can escape in the night and abandon you forever!

Today I shall be fetching more detritus treasured possessions from the bungalow and sorting them...dusting some more and preparing a stew atop the woodburner. Apparently we're in for a chilly weekend. Not sure where my phone is, not that there's any signal here anyway, but it takes better photos than the iPad.

So here's just a taster...

Yep...it's moving chaos!

Tomorrow

Big day tomorrow...

The carpets are being laid...

Progress...

Going to have trouble sleeping tonight...

Just like Christmas Eve as a child...

We have worked hard all weekend again...

Now it's close...

Very close...

Our move to Little Winter!

See you there...

The Final Countdown

We're on the final countdown now to moving. Carpet should be laid on Monday. We probably won't be taking beds over in the evening, but I'd really like to be in by Wednesday night to sleep as it's hubby's birthday then. Fingers crossed.

It looks as though the weather is going to feel decidedly chilly for the coming weekend. We have been rather spoilt this week, apart from a few sharp showers and a mighty thunderstorm on Tuesday afternoon. We had hails not far off golf balls and it looked for all the world like mushrooms growing in the grass.

I've had a run in with some decidedly orange wood, which I'm none too keen on. Bleach has been utilised several times. Later I'm rubbing in some briwax and hope for a more muted effect.

Heidi has been coming regularly to the cottage this week. She appears to appreciate the garden.

She even'helped' me to square up the small area we're storing some logs in at the moment...

I would show you inside the utility shed...old pig house, but I'm going to pretend I never looked in there and saw the mess dumped through all the building process. And if I haven't noticed it, it won't be me who has to sort it out!

Utterly Pooped

The title does what it says on the tin so to speak.

Knackered...capital K too!

Feeding workers...

Washing...

Shopping...

Completely, totally, and utterly, from the top of my head to the tips of my toes done in...

But we're getting there...

Another day tomorrow too...

These photos are from a lovely dog walk a few days ago...

Heidi and grand puppy Beatrice..

There was lots of running around and playing...

Beatrice has a new harness that makes her look like a parade dog...

We have just found out that she has a small tumour in her ear which needs removing...

Poor puppy...

Time for some zzzzzzzz...

Amongst Other Things

The identification of two peg pants.

Yes yesterday I sadly admitted to myself whilst hanging out the washing that my once svelte undergarments now are in need of two peg support! No photo...can't think why! Whereas in comparison youngest daughter's could merrily be hung in bunches...by the labels as that seems the most substantial piece of cloth they possess.

But anyway perhaps if I stopped cooking up things like this...

Sliced potatoes, onions, salt, pepper, and cream, topped up with milk...

Then loaded with belly pork and slow cooked in the oven I wouldn't be needing two peg panties. Trouble with that equation is that the above dish was mighty yummy...so yummy in fact that it was all eaten before I even thought about taking a photo!

Tuesday found me travelling to Bristol with eldest daughter to visit hubby's niece. She's doing really well and has been allowed home for the weekend though has a hospital bed and commode downstairs. Her sight is much better that the original diagnosis, though it's still going to be a long road of recovery. She is starting school at the hospital on Monday...no escape!

Tuesday was also the day our tumble dryer nearly caught fire. We are so lucky that it didn't. LG engineer coming next Thursday, but it has to go via head office. It's still under warranty thankfully. I've saved a towel back so they can see and smell what it was like, though the drum stinks to high heaven. Thankfully none of the washing was burnt, just stinky.

We've been having some lovely dog walks, and I may well upload some photos to here later, but for now they are resting on my phone. We have had some good periods of sunshine, but the mighty winds have been blowing and we're all suffering with dry skin.

Right then...loads of cottage related jobs to do today, but first breakfast of some leftover suet pudding which we had with roast beef last night, with a knob of butter and a spoonful of golden syrup.

Oops...

The Cottage Has Shrunk

I am in turmoil

I fear the cottage has indeed shrunk

Feeling slightly panicky

The cause of this sudden situation

The men took over our large American style fridge freezer

The kitchen seems to have halved in size

I think I need to rethink the furniture that goes in the living room side

Oh dear

The woes of having lived in a largish farmhouse and having furniture to match those proportions only to downsize

To take the large oak dresser or the engineers desk

Hubby says he may be able to take the desk apart and take that upstairs to the spare room come office

I'm not so sure it will fit

Major rejigging plans required

But tonight I really am beginning to panic

I don't want the place to look junky

Keep calm and carry on painting

Or keep calm and carry on mopping up dust particles

Or to hell with it and P A N I C

Night all, J. X

The Best Laid Plans

I appear to have been rather over optimistic in my aspirations for this afternoon...

Not for me was there a glass of ginger cordial, not for me a warm fire, and not for me feet resting above floor level. Instead I have been hard at work at the cottage, trying to rid the place of building dust. Yuck, now showered, and fed, and quite frankly absolutely knackered.

Ha ha I can hear you say!

J. x

I Didn't Order This!

Namely the rain that is pelting down outside and shows no signs of abating any time soon. BBC weather app...you got it so wrong this morning! It's fair chucking it down. Humph!

Today I'm awarding myself a rest from painting, what with arm, elbow, and wrist ache it's a no no today. I'm prepared to let someone else take the strain this soggy day thank you.

Instead I'm donning pinny and gloves and going to try and remove the building grime from the bathroom. I may just ban sanding after that!

Eldest daughter who was going to be my right hand helper this weekend has a nasty chesty cold so quite rightly is keeping away from the dust.

After feeding the cows hubby has excused himself and left for a farm implement sale...complete with cheque book...ugh no!

Plans for this afternoon include...a warm fire...a glass of ginger wine...feet reposed upon something off the floor, and comfy cushions.

Can't wait...

Take care, J. X

A Picture Tells A Thousand Words

A top up visit to Lidl the other day...

In my defence they were being flogged off cheaply...

Still...

Sensible eating has been on hold over the Easter period...

Niece is doing well but appears blind in one eye which is unlikely to change...

I'm losing the will to lift a paintbrush or pack any more stuff...

It could still be another couple of weeks to moving day and quite frankly I'm fed up now...

I just want to be in a clean, dry, tidy house...

We could well be cooking on top of the woodburner for a while, any suggestions for cakes or scones that can be hob baked would be greatly received. Perhaps I should source myself a couldron for authenticity!

Take care everyone, J. x
